CareNavIQ shows published hospital prices. You can use it without an account, and we don’t track you across visits.

What we don’t collect

Server logs

We don’t keep a record of every visit. When a request fails or a connection drops, our server logs the problem so we can fix it. That log entry can include your IP address, your browser type and the page address you asked for, which contains your search words. We use these logs only to run and fix the site, and older entries are deleted automatically once the logs reach a fixed size.

The search assistant

If the search box can’t fully understand a question, it may pass the question to our search assistant, a language model running on a CareNavIQ computer (not an outside AI company). It reads the question only to fill in the search choices, such as the procedure, insurer, ZIP code or distance. It doesn’t keep your question, and it never writes prices: every price comes from the hospitals’ published files.

Your ZIP code

If you enter a ZIP code to find nearby hospitals, it is sent with the page request (it appears in the page address, like search words) and used only to measure distance to hospitals. We don’t ask for your street address or use your device’s location.

The cost estimator

The deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket numbers you enter on a procedure page are worked out in your browser. They aren’t sent to us, stored, or added to the page address.

If you email us

If you write to carenaviq@gmail.com, we receive your email address and your message, and keep them only to reply and to fix what you reported. Please don’t include health details. The “Tell us about it” links only fill in the procedure and hospital you were looking at.

Your health information

Please don’t type personal health details (names, conditions, dates of birth, insurance member numbers) into the search box. It only needs the name of a procedure or test. Search words appear in the page address, so they can be saved in your own browser’s history.

Services that handle your connection

Visits reach us through Cloudflare, which protects and delivers the site. Like any network provider, Cloudflare processes your IP address and the request to deliver the page, under its own privacy policy. We have turned off its analytics and script features. If Cloudflare needs to check that a visitor isn’t an automated bot, it may set a short-lived security cookie of its own. Cloudflare adds your IP address to a header of each request it forwards to us, which is how it can appear in the server logs described above.

The prices you see

Everything on the site comes from public sources: price files hospitals must publish under federal law (45 CFR Part 180) and Medicare data published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It contains no information about patients. See the Terms of use for what the prices do and don’t mean.

Children

The site is meant for adults. Apart from the server logs described above, it doesn’t collect information from anyone.

Changes

If our practices change, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
